| PowerPC chipsets traditionally does not include IDE capability, thus interfacing a hard disk drive is normally solved with a SCSI controller board and drive. The PMC-HDD1 cuts down costs tremendously by taking advantage of cost-efficient IDE hard disks. Sized like a PMC module, it can be added to any VME or CompactPCI PowerPC CPU providing a PMC slot, e.g. CP620. Connection to 3U CPUs without onboard PMC capability like VMP2 or CP321 is made easy with dedicated PMC carrier boards bundled with the PMC-HDD1.
